Wild weather moving up the country is now bringing flooding to some roads around the Ruapehu district, and State Highway Three has been blocked by a landslip.
The Whanganui River is also on the rise, potentially to its highest point in more than a decade.
The upper part of the South Island was pounded by heavy rain yesterday, forcing some Nelson homeowners to sandbag their properties and isolating Westport for most of the day.
But rain is easing in the South Island, as a front moves up the country, and a weather warning is now in place for the lower half of the North Island.
Police have just revealed that a slip is now blocking both lanes of State Highway 3 between Te Kuiti and New Plymouth.
