Early Career Researchers forum

Dear Royal Society Constituent Organisation Representative,

The Royal Society of New Zealand Early Career Researcher Forum (RSNZ ECR Forum) is a section of the Royal Society dedicated to engaging New Zealand ECRs across all disciplines on the issues important to them and fostering a collaborative, communicative, and respected community under the auspices of the Royal Society of New Zealand. As I mentioned at the recent Constituent Organisations' Forum, we would like to increase interactions between the Royal Society’s Constituent Organisations (COs) and the RNSZ ECR Forum, in particular, so that we can better build relationships with and address issues of ECRs found outside of more traditional academic or CRI environments.

In order to facilitate such interactions, the RSNZ ECR Forum invites early career members of the Royal Society’s COs to join the ECR Forum by registering their interest (membership applications will reopen in January) at http://www.royalsociety.org.nz/join-and-support/members/.

We note that the Royal Society of New Zealand has recently changed its membership structure to include a Professional Membership for ECRs that attracts a 50% rebate on the full subscription, making it just $90 per annum. While there are guidelines in place as to who qualifies as an ECR, we encourage anyone falling outside of these criteria and who considers themselves to be an ECR to get in touch with us, as we want to be as inclusive as possible.

In addition to the benefits for all individual members of the Royal Society of New Zealand, ECR Forum members can participate in all ECR events that will be run throughout the country. These events are targeted to the needs of the ECRs, such as communication, mentoring, networking skills, or building a career. ECR Forum members will also be able to contribute ideas towards future events to meet the needs of the ECR community. Furthermore, ECR Forum members have the potential to contribute to RSNZ expert panels.

Other ways to help build links with the RSNZ ECR Forum and stay informed about events that are being hosted by the RSNZ ECR Forum for the benefit of its members are to subscribe to the RSNZ ECR Forum mailing list, Facebook page and Twitter feed, all of which can be done by visiting our website.

We would be grateful if you could forward this email around your CO mailing list, and/or to any ECRs whom you think might be interested in joining us. On the other hand, if you do not think this is of relevance to members of your CO, please let us know and we will not bother you any further.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Thank you.

Kind regards,

Jane Allison
