Abstract:

The Gifford-Hanna ATDL model has been applied to areal emissions of smoke over the urban area of Christchurch. Varying atmospheric stability conditions have been incorporated and the model has been run for three-hourly joint frequencies of wind speed and direction for the winters of 1977 and 1978. Prediction of 24-hour and three-hourly changes in the smoke dispersion fields are shown to be in reasonable agreement with the observed spatial and temporal variation of smoke pollution during the winters of 1977 and 1978.
