Abstract:

A sub-title of this address could be "The other side of the fence is different" and in reality it is an attempt to look at some of the many different aspects of meteorology and climatology and to consider each aspect in terms such as its overall importance, application, impact, political significance, and possible role on the international scene. Each of the topics to be discussed can be looked at in the form of a game — with its specific rules, protocol, history, adherents, and sceptics. But like all real games, one must of course play the game to achieve satisfaction, and one must also be part of the administration of the game (or otherwise be influential) if one hopes to change any of the rules by which the game is governed.
