Royal Society Te Apārangi in partnership with Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, is delighted to offer a public lecture by Professor Detlef Stammer, Chair of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). Professor Stammer will outline WCRP's activities and how these will help promote climate science education and to inform development of climate services and policies. He will also address the most pressing climate science challenges facing humanity and plans to address them through international co-ordination and co-operation. His presentation will be of interest to climate change researchers, stakeholders, users of climate change information, and the public.
Professor Detlef Stammer was appointed as a member of the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee (JSC) in 2019 and elected as JSC Chair shortly thereafter. Professor Stammer has been a Fellow of the International Science Council since 2022. He received a Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography from the Institute of Oceanography, Kiel. His research interests include the role of the ocean in climate variability and sea level change. Book now to attend this lecture. Refreshments will be served after the talk.
