Honorary Membership recognises individuals who have made an exceptional contribution to meteorology, climatology or the atmospheric sciences. It may be awarded for:
There is an expectation that recipients will be financial members of the New Zealand Meteorological Society at the time Honorary Membership is conferred. Honorary Members will normally be resident in New Zealand or have a significant current or past professional or other connection with New Zealand. There is no limit on the number of Honorary Members; however, normally no more than two candidates should be proposed for Honorary Membership at any one Annual General Meeting.
Application deadline and processing
Nominations should be made preferably by 30 September. Honorary membership will only be conferred if nominations of sufficient merit are received.
All nominations must either be by a current member of the Meteorological Society of New Zealand or include a written endorsement by a current member. Nominations should be submitted to the Society awards sub-committee (awards@metsoc.org.nz) and must include:
The Society Committee will evaluate all nominations against the Eligibility and Award Criteria. Any nominee recommended for Honorary Membership will be submitted to the Annual General Meeting for election as an Honorary Member of the Society. Nominees are encouraged to attend and give an invited talk at the annual Meteorological Society Conference.
